PAINTING THE SKY WITH THE NORTHERN LIGHTS: CELEBRATING WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY 2024 WITH ROE VALLEY ARTS AND ELLA MOR

To mark World Mental Health Day on October 10th, 2024, Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre organised an unforgettable Awe Walk up Binevenagh Mountain, guided by the remarkable Heather Nicholl at Ella Mor Outdoor Adventures and assisted by Sharon Colhoun from RVACC. Under the vast open sky, glimmering with countless stars, we were blessed with the breathtaking sight of the Aurora. It was a moment that connected us all to the wonders of nature and an evening we will never forget.

Reaching the peak, Heather, our inspiring guide, shared a beautiful poem, allowing us to reflect quietly on the lights of Inishowen, the mesmerising stars, the moon and the magical dance of the Aurora. Each word of her poem seemed to echo the harmony and tranquility found in nature, reminding us of the simple joys that life offers.

We also would like to take the opportunity to thank The Chocolate Manor, Castlerock for keeping us warm with their delicious hot chocolate. It was the perfect touch, adding warmth and comfort to the chilly night and making our gathering even more special.

The beauty of this night wasn't solely in the spectacular views, it was also in the unity and shared energy of everyone who joined us. There's something profoundly healing about coming together, appreciating the natural world and enjoying each other’s company. Those in the group stated ‘It was a brilliant experience’, another adding ‘Fantastic evening, great event and everyone was amazing’.

Awe walks and stargazing activities like this are more than leisure pursuits. They're transformative experiences that offer a break from the daily grind, opening our eyes to the beauty and mystery of the natural world. They remind us of our place within the universe, bringing peace and perspective that are vital for good mental health. In these shared experiences, we find hope, connection, and healing.

Thank you to everyone who came along and made the evening truly special. Your presence and positive energy were the true stars of the night. We hope this event leaves a lasting smile in your hearts and inspires you to carry the spirit of awe and community in everyday life. Here's to continued exploration, connection, and well-being. Until next time!
