EMBRACE THE MAGIC OF HALLOWEEN WITH SPOOKTACULAR HALF-TERM EVENTS

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s Arts Services invite families to visit Flowerfield and Roe Valley Arts Centre’s this October. With a jam-packed half-term programme of thrilling activities for children, families, and adults from immersive Haunted Halloween Open Days to creative workshops, there’s something for everyone to enjoy while we embrace the spirit of Halloween and ancient traditions.

Roe Valley Arts Centre, Limavady – Halloween Highlights for Kids and Families

Kick off half term week with a Haunted Halloween Open Day on Monday 28 October in Roe Valley. With free admission, families can dive into spooky fun with a Frightenin’ Family Screening of Wolfwalkers, creative craft sessions inspired by Samhain and Diwali, and a spooky disco with Echo Echo Dance Theatre. Storyteller Karen Edwards will spin eerie myths from local mythology, while Eurekaseekers will teach you how to brew magical potions… but beware, creepy characters may be lurking around every corner! This film screening is in Partnership with the Cinemagic Young Audiences Supporting the Foodbank Initiative and while tickets are free, booking is essential. Instead of paying for a ticket we ask you to bring along a donation for the foodbank on the day.

For young creatives, there’s a Squishmallows Mixed Media Workshop (29 Oct), Samhain Animal Spirits Mask-Making (29 Oct), and Kumihimo Friendship Bracelets Workshop (29 Oct), offering opportunities to make spooky arts and crafts and on 30 October Jane McCluskey will lead a Children’s Pottery taster.

On Thursday 31 October, the fabulous Banyan Theatre presents Don’t Let the Bedbugs Bite—a delightful puppet show for ages 4-10 that promises fun and giggles for the whole family.

Halloween Events for Adults at Roe Valley Arts

Adults are invited to get in the spooky spirit too! CCG Museum Servies are hosting an Autumn Talk at Roe Valley Arts on Tuesday 29 October when Dr. Bob Curran will be talking about the origins of Hallowe'en as well as sharing some Ghost Stories. On Wednesday 30 October, Tenx9 returns with a Halloween theme, expect an evening full of real-life ghost stories, sure to send shivers down your spine. This free, cabaret-style event offers a unique and intimate storytelling experience.

To round off your Halloween festivities, join VOKXEN on Thursday 31 October for The Song of the Bones, an immersive dark theatre performance based on Ireland’s last witch trial. This captivating show, blending music with Song of the Bones is a piece of immersive dark theatre merging electronic pop music with filmed shadow puppetry and spooky visuals and earthy musical percussion by @itsmcdave (Blue Man Group).

Flowerfield Arts Centre, Portstewart – Creative Fun for Kids

On Saturday 26 October, children can get hands-on with Halloween crafts at Flowerfield, with Halloween Mixed Media Lanterns workshops with Linda or, they can craft creepy Halloween Clay Lanterns (26 Oct) with Fiona Shannon to light up their Halloween night!

Then, on Thursday 31 October, Flowerfield will host its Haunted Halloween Open Day, where they will also screen Wolfwalkers as part of The Young Audiences Supporting the Foodbank, following that there will be craft sessions exploring our shared heritage and celebrating Diwali and Samhain, storytelling in the Taletime Story Dome and the chance to dance with Echo Echo Theatre’s spooky disco. Watch out for ghostly visitors lurking around the Arts Centre!
