NI SCIENCE FESTIVAL ROADSHOW | CHEMISTRY & THE CELTS WITH SCIENTIFIC SUE

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s Arts Services invite families to visit Flowerfield and Roe Valley Arts Centres this February half term.

With a programme of creative workshops, events by Northern Ireland Science Festival, and exhibitions, there’s lots to keep your family entertained.

Roe Valley Arts Centre

At Roe Valley Arts Centre from 12th -14th February, children can explore their creative side with 3 different workshops.

Create a woven heart, with weaver Lorna Shannon who will lead a textiles workshop for 7-11 year olds. Join Linda Mulholland as she helps young people create adorable mixed media Love Monster Collages while little performers can try their hand at juggling, hula hooping and more, with North Coast Circus.

On Saturday 15th February the Northern Ireland Science Festival stops at Roe Valley Arts Centre, and they are calling on all little explorers to join them for an exciting adventure with Look Closer. Little ones up to 5 years old can enjoy episodes of the popular BBC show, Tiny Wonders on the big screen. Then they will have the chance to dive headfirst into hands on exploration in mini labs, using real microscopes to take a closer look at little curiosities from nature. Please note parents must always accompany children during this event.

In the afternoon, young people can step into the world of the Irish Celts with Chemistry and the Celts with Scientific Sue, a thrilling blend of ancient history and science led by the captivating Scientific Sue.

Explore how Celtic ingenuity shaped tools, weapons, and coins from raw iron and discover the secrets of their vibrant dyes and medicinal plants. Through live demonstrations and engaging storytelling, this family-friendly event brings Celtic culture to life, blending science and history in an unforgettable experience. Perfect for curious minds ages 7+ years, this dynamic roadshow is a journey through time you won’t want to miss.

Flowerfield Arts Centre

Flowerfield presents a vibrant 3-day Colour Magic Art Club from kids from 12th -14th February, inviting young creative minds to join Linda Mulholland for this Science Week theme, where arts meets science. Participants will experiment with colour and ingredients, to secure your spot at visit flowerfield.org or call 028 7083 1400. Don’t miss Here, There and Them: Contemporary Art from the Arts Council Northern Ireland Collection. This vibrant exhibition showcases a stunning mix of painting, sculpture, photography, and craft, offering something for all ages to enjoy. Bursting with colour and imagination, the works capture how artists view the world around us – perfect for sparking curiosity in children and inspiring young minds. Admission to this exhibition is free.
