Meet the Maker – Seeing the World in Silk
As part of our Meet the Maker Programme we turn our focus this week to Stephen Whalley of Whalley Silk. Stephen is a contemporary Belfast artist and a former graduate of Ulster University, (3D Design and Sculpture). Stephen is inspired by the stunning scenery that surrounds us in the Causeway Coast and Glens area. Stephen comments:
"The inspiration to have my own collection of luxury silk customised pieces for men happened when I was having a jacket, with the unusual lining, tailored for myself. I felt the jacket and bespoke lining, as well as being incredibly smart, would appeal to stylish men here with a special affection for certain parts of the province."
Stephen is supplying silk pocket squares to Visitor Information Centres throughout the Causeway Coast and Glens has now released a silk scarf and homeware collection including placemats, coasters and worktop protectors. Call into Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre to have a look at his beautiful work or pick up a gift for that special someone.
