Under brilliant blue skies and warm spring sunshine nature enthusiasts gathered in Downhill Forest on Friday 16 May for our hands-on forest foraging workshop. Led by forager Clare from Feasting on Weeds, we were guided through the art of identifying edible wild plants native to the local area. Clare taught us how to safely identify edible wild plants and flowers and how to forage responsibly. Participants were all encouraged to use all their senses, smelling plants and tasting finds under Clare’s supervision. The group were a mix of locals and people as far away as Letterkenny and Belfast!

After the walk we gathered at a picnic table under the trees for a tasting of foraged treats which included a delicious iced elderflower drink, wild garlic scones and a mouthwatering polenta cake decorated with edible flowers. With smiles all around and baskets filled with newfound knowledge (and a few greens) it was a memorable day for all involved!
