23rd July 2026
Roe Valley Arts & Cultural Centre is delighted to host The American Dream, a new exhibition curated by Causeway Coast and Glens Museum Services, exploring the remarkable connections between the Causeway Coast and Glens and the United States of America.
The exhibition will be officially launched on Wednesday 29 July at 7pm, and everyone is warmly invited to attend.
Following the launch, visitors can enjoy a fascinating illustrated talk by Dr David Hume MBE, titled Ulster Americans: A Look at Some Famous Figures from History. Dr Hume will explore the lives and achievements of influential individuals with roots in the Causeway Coast and Glens whose contributions helped shape American history and society.
The American Dream traces the enduring relationship between our local area and the United States, beginning with the early Ulster settlers of the eighteenth century, including those associated with Aghadowey and the Nutfield settlement in New Hampshire. The exhibition also highlights local connections to the American Revolution, the abolitionist movement, journalism, enterprise, culture and the arts, celebrating the extraordinary influence of people from the Causeway Coast and Glens across generations.
This thought-provoking exhibition offers visitors the opportunity to discover inspiring stories of migration, ambition and achievement, revealing how local people made a lasting impact on communities thousands of miles from home.
Admission to both the exhibition launch and Dr David Hume MBE's talk is free, but booking is essential. To reserve your place, please email museums@causewaycoastandglens.gov.uk or telephone 028 2766 0230.
If you are unable to attend the launch, The American Dream exhibition will remain on display at Roe Valley Arts & Cultural Centre until 20 August, giving visitors plenty of opportunity to explore these fascinating stories and discover the rich historical links between the Causeway Coast and Glens and the United States.
