17th September 2025

We were truly delighted to open Tend/er, a solo exhibition by Sligo-based artist Lorna Watkins, here at Roe Valley Arts on the 13th of September. It was a warm and memorable afternoon, made even more special by the presence of the Mayor, who spoke with genuine admiration for Lorna’s work, saying it was a privilege to have her exhibiting in Limavady. We were also delighted to welcome Lorna’s friends and family many of those who travelled a great distance to view this wonderful exhibition.
Lorna’s work is beautiful, but not simply because it is visually striking. It is beautiful because she pours herself into it. Her practice is deeply personal and considered, rooted in her own life and the world around her. The exhibition features painting, printmaking, and sculpture that reflect on home, overlooked everyday objects, motherhood and ageing. Lorna often references the body, drawing on her long-standing dedication to life drawing, which has been a constant thread in her work over the past decade.
We first met Lorna over a year ago, and since then she has become part of the Roe Valley family. It felt very natural to welcome her back to exhibit with us. The connection she has with this space and with those who visit it is genuine and lasting.
On the afternoon of the opening, her best friend, fellow artist and studio neighbour Emma Stroude shared a few heartfelt words about Lorna’s work and their shared journey. It was a moving moment, and a reminder of how art is shaped not just by solitary practice but by the people who support and inspire us.
Tend/er is open until the 31st of October, and we are happy to offer tours and talks for groups or individuals who would like to explore the work more deeply.
We hope you’ll come and experience this thoughtful and tender exhibition for yourself.
